Print Bleed & Margin Calculator

LIVE

Calculate print bleed, safe margin, and 300dpi resolution for Korean print specs.

About this tool

Print Bleed & Margin Calculator turns a finished trim size + bleed (default 3 mm) + safe margin (default 5 mm) + fold style (half / tri-fold roll / Z / gatefold / booklet spread) into an SVG preview that draws the trim, bleed, safe, and fold lines, plus mm / inch / 72-150-300-600 dpi pixel conversions. Color-coded lines drop straight into Adobe Illustrator / InDesign / Photoshop "Document Setup" and "Master Page" β€” preventing the classic disasters of cropped text or empty edges on cards, flyers, and banners. Share a URL with your print shop to lock in identical specs.

Use cases

Scenario 1

Business card 90Γ—50 with bleed

Add 3 mm bleed to a 90Γ—50 mm Korean business card to get a 96Γ—56 mm working size and a safe area 5 mm in from the trim, then mirror the spec in Illustrator.

Scenario 2

3-fold brochure fold-line layout

For a tri-fold (roll fold) on landscape A4, auto-apply the -2 mm trim on the inner panel so it folds clean, with exact panel widths.

Scenario 3

Poster pixel size at 300 dpi

Convert an A2 poster trimmed to 426Γ—600 mm with bleed into 5031Γ—7087 px at 300 dpi for an exact Photoshop canvas.

Scenario 4

Wedding flyer + share with print shop

Send the share URL of your wedding-card size to the print shop so both sides see the same SVG spec β€” eliminating "is the bleed actually 3 mm?" round-trips.

Scenario 5

Booklet spread (left & right page)

Auto-lay a 64-page A5 booklet in spread mode with the center fold and per-page safe areas instantly visible.

Frequently asked

Q. Why 3 mm bleed?
A. It is the Korean/Japanese print convention. The U.S. uses 1/8" (~3.175 mm) and parts of Europe 5 mm β€” the tool offers per-shop presets.
Q. What must stay inside the 5 mm safe area?
A. Critical text, logos, and key parts of images β€” anything that would suffer from a Β±2 mm trim β€” must sit inside the safe area. Backgrounds extend out to the bleed.
Q. Why is the inner panel of a tri-fold -2 mm?
A. In a roll fold the inner panel is folded twice; if it matches the outer panels, the paper jams. Trim it ~2 mm shorter for a clean fold.
Q. Why is 300 dpi the print standard?
A. At 300 dpi the human eye stops resolving pixels at typical reading distance. Cards, brochures, and magazines all need 300 dpi+; outdoor banners and large posters often live happily at 150 dpi.
Q. Do shops have different bleed / margin rules?
A. Yes β€” some shops require 4 mm bleed and 7 mm safe area. The tool ships per-shop presets and accepts custom values.
