1. What is a birthday cafe?

A birthday cafe (Korean saengil cafe, shortened to saengka) is a fan-run event where supporters rent and decorate a cafe to celebrate their bias’s birthday. Banners, life-size standees, cup sleeves and themed desserts fill the space, and visitors receive small freebies. Events usually run for a few days around the member’s birthday and are announced almost entirely on Instagram and X (Twitter).

2. Freebies (특전) — what you can get

The free gifts handed out at the cafe are called 특전 (teukjeon). Common ones:

  • Photocard — the most coveted; often limited per day or per order amount.
  • Cup holder / cup sleeve — given with a drink purchase.
  • Postcard, sticker, keyring, badge — often free with entry or a stamp.

Many cafes set tiers: a drink gets you a cup holder, while a dessert set unlocks a photocard. Read the organizer’s Instagram post carefully — freebie rules and daily limits are always listed there.

3. Etiquette

  • Order something. The space is rented at the organizer’s expense; buy at least a drink.
  • Keep decorations intact. Don’t take banners or standees; photograph, don’t pocket.
  • Mind your time at busy cafes — take photos, enjoy, and free the seat in peak hours.
  • Be kind to staff and organizers. They are usually fans volunteering their time.

4. How to confirm dates (avoid a wasted trip)

Listings move, sell out, or get cancelled. Before you travel, open the event’s Instagram hashtagand check the most recent post for the date, hours, freebie status and any sold-out notice. This tool links each card straight to its hashtag for exactly that reason.

5. Using this tool

  1. Filter by group, area and freebie to find events that match your bias.
  2. Watch the D-day badge for what’s coming up or open now.
  3. Add your own events — they’re saved in your browser only.
  4. Share your list as one link, or export any event to your calendar (.ics).

Listings shown by default are illustrative examples, not real venue data. Always confirm via the official hashtag.
