How do I convert SRT to VTT?

No. subconvert reads and converts files entirely inside your browser using the File API and Blob download. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account, and no copy of your subtitles is stored online. Only your conversion settings (target format and offset) are kept in localStorage on your own device.

My subtitles are out of sync — can I fix the timing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Use the sync offset field to shift every cue by a number of seconds. A positive value delays the subtitles, a negative value moves them earlier. For example, enter -1.5 if the subtitles appear 1.5 seconds too late. The offset applies to the converted output you copy or download.

My Korean subtitle file shows broken characters. What can I do?

Older Korean SMI and SRT files are often saved in EUC-KR rather than UTF-8, which shows as garbled text when read as UTF-8. Switch the encoding selector to EUC-KR and the file is re-decoded correctly. Converting then outputs clean UTF-8, so the recovered subtitle displays properly in modern players.

What is the SMI (SAMI) format?

SMI (SAMI) is a Microsoft subtitle format widely used by older Korean media players. Each caption is a SYNC Start=milliseconds tag followed by a P paragraph, and an empty nbsp cue clears the screen. subconvert reads these SYNC blocks into timed cues and can convert them to SRT or VTT, and back.
