Frequently Asked Questions

How many times per day should I do 4-7-8 breathing?

Twice daily is generally recommended — right after waking up and just before bed — starting with 4 cycles each session. After a few weeks you can increase to 8 cycles.

What is the difference between box breathing and 4-7-8 breathing?

Box breathing (4-4-4-4) has equal phases and is easier to learn, primarily used for focus. 4-7-8 has a longer exhale (8 seconds) which makes it stronger for relaxation and sleep. Choose based on your goal.

What should I do if I feel dizzy during breathing?

Stop immediately and return to normal breathing. Dizziness can result from hyperventilation or changes in blood CO2 levels. Consult a doctor if symptoms persist.

Is it safe to use during pregnancy?

Always consult your doctor before practicing breath-holding techniques during pregnancy. The relaxing breath (4-0-6-0) with no holds is relatively safer but still requires medical clearance.

Does it help with sleep?

4 cycles 30–60 minutes before bed may help lower heart rate and ease tension. However, clinical sleep disorders require separate medical treatment.
