- You can report anonymously; a reporter's identity and report are kept confidential by law.
- It is illegal to fire or disadvantage someone for filing a report.
- You don't need to be certain. You may report on suspicion, with no liability if it turns out otherwise.
- Mandatory reporters (doctors, social workers, care workers) must report any suspected abuse.
After you report
1. Report & intake
Call 1577-1389 or 112; the Elder Protection Agency or police take the report.
2. Field investigation
A trained counselor meets the elder, confirms safety, and assesses whether abuse occurred.
3. Protection & referral
If needed, the elder is referred to a shelter, medical/legal/psychological support, or separated for safety.
🏠 Shelters for abused elders
Elders who must be separated from abuse can stay at a dedicated shelter for a period of protection and psychological care. Admission is arranged through Elder Protection Agency counseling.
