About this NPS Lump-sum Refund Checker

Last updated 2026-06-20 · This page documents the tool's trustworthiness (E-E-A-T).

What this tool is

The Korea NPS Lump-sum Refund Checker helps foreigners who are leaving Korea find out whether they can reclaim their National Pension contributions, and roughly how much. Enter your nationality, visa type, contribution months, and average monthly income, and the tool decides your likely eligibility (eligible / conditional / not eligible) and estimates the refund. It is free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser — your inputs are never sent to a server.

How eligibility is decided

The checker applies the official NPS rule: a foreign insured person can receive a lump-sum refund if their country grants Korean nationals a corresponding benefit (reciprocity), if a social security agreement provides a refund, or if they hold an E-8/E-9/H-2 visa. These three routes are independent. A small static dataset classifies each country into one of four groups — agreement (refund allowed), agreement without lump-sum, reciprocity, or none — and the visa rule overrides nationality.

How the amount is estimated

The estimate uses contributions of about 9% of standardized monthly income (employee plus employer share, both refundable), clamped to the NPS income range, multiplied by your insured months, plus an approximate interest amount. It is intentionally simple and conservative; the real interest is credited yearly by NPS, so the official figure may differ.

Data sources and updates

  • National Pension Service (NPS) — foreigner lump-sum refund rules and the social security agreement country list.
  • Korea Immigration Service (Hi Korea) — visa categories.
  • Verification date: 2026-06-20. Country lists and contribution bounds are reviewed periodically, but rules change and may not be reflected immediately.
